Young Adults Programme - The Religious Freedom Young Adult Net Work ( RFYN )
In consonance with the IARF Strategic Plan March 2005, this integrated programme with a long-term goal of developing the necessary knowledge and field experience in young people had been taken up in the South Asia Region. The programme intended that the young adults with in the age group of 18-35, were enabled :
(i) to gain a deeper knowledge of religious issues locally, nationally and globally,
(ii) to become familiar with the concepts underlying article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its application to IARF’s statement of purpose and
(iii) to learn through involvement and action by creating small and large scale projects that enable interfaith encounter to take place, especially in areas where religious intolerance threatens religious freedom.
Consequently, from 26th February to 2nd March 2004, a South Asia Regional level Young Adult Programme was held at two venues in Tamilnadu, India – Tirunelveli and Tenkasi – by IARF’s RFYN in conjunction with the IARF – South Asia Coordinating Council. 35 Young Adults, both male and female from different faiths drawn from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka took part in the programme. Another programme for 30 local Young Adults went off at Visakhapatanam, Andhra Pradesh, India from 6 – 8, March 2005.
